Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola addressed the media for the first time on Friday since extending his contract with the Premier League champions. In his comments, Guardiola pledged to stay with the club even if they were relegated from the top flight and dropped as low as the National League.

The hearing on these charges began in September, with a verdict expected in early 2024. If City is found guilty, the potential punishments remain unclear, but one possibility is relegation from the Premier League to the fifth tier of English football. Despite this possibility, Guardiola has made it clear he would remain at the helm.
“I’ve read that some people want us relegated immediately, with 75 percent of clubs allegedly behind this idea,” Guardiola said ahead of City’s match with Tottenham Hotspur. “I prefer not to be in that position, but if it happens, I will embrace it. I believe in the club and in the people here. I trust what they’ve told me about these charges and the reasons behind them.”
“We’re awaiting the verdict in February or March. If we’re relegated, I will stay. I don’t know if that means we’ll drop to the Conference League, but I believe we’ll fight our way back to the Premier League.”
