TBR Football reported that Graham Potter was once again a candidate, following failed attempts to hire him during the summer, alongside former Everton manager David Moyes. However, both Moyes and Potter were not interested in the position, prompting Leicester to look elsewhere.
It was soon revealed that Ruud van Nistelrooy had emerged as the top choice, and TBR Football sources confirm he has agreed to terms to become the club’s new manager. Leicester focused on free agents in their search, and with van Nistelrooy available after leaving his interim role at Manchester United, no compensation was required.
The former United striker had previously turned down an offer from Burnley in the summer and was also on Hamburg’s radar for their head coach role. However, he expressed a strong desire to return to management in England.
In addition to Potter and Moyes, Leicester also considered England Under-21 boss Lee Carsley and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan, but the need for compensation led them to focus on free agents. Van Nistelrooy’s impressive record, including two victories over Leicester during his time at Manchester United, caught the attention of the club’s hierarchy.
Discussions took place in recent days, with van Nistelrooy reportedly making a strong impression. He was offered the job on Wednesday, and terms were quickly agreed upon. This will be the 48-year-old’s second managerial role, following a brief spell at PSV Eindhoven, where he resigned after just over a year in charge in 2023.
