Crouch had agreed to terms with Sunderland, even visiting their training ground, looking at houses, and meeting then-manager Steve Bruce. However, while heading home, he received a call from Harry Redknapp, who wanted to bring him to Spurs after their successful partnership at Portsmouth and Southampton. Crouch ultimately joined Spurs, and the rest is history.

“If I had joined just after Alan Shearer’s time, I would have been at a good age. But these things don’t always work out. It’s all hypothetical, but if I had to pick one club to play for, it would have been Newcastle.”
