Everton have entered the race for Botafogo forward Igor Jesus, joining Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, as reported by Brazilian outlet UOL.
The two English clubs are said to be closely monitoring the 23-year-old, who has already attracted significant interest despite only joining Botafogo in July. While Fulham had previously been linked with Jesus, Everton are now seen as serious contenders for his signature in 2025. The club has reportedly been briefed on the conditions necessary to secure the striker in January.
Botafogo is expected to reject any offers below £16.5m (€20m) for Jesus, who is under contract until December 2027, giving the Brazilian club a strong negotiating position.
Since his move from Shabab Al-Ahli to Botafogo, Jesus has impressed, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 30 appearances this season. He has also helped the club win their first-ever Copa Libertadores title.
Everton, who saw their match against Liverpool postponed on Saturday, have struggled for goals this season, managing just 14 in their first 14 matches. Only bottom-placed Southampton have scored fewer, with just 9 goals, adding to the pressure on manager Sean Dyche, whose job is increasingly under threat as the club sits 15th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone. As a result, Everton are reportedly eyeing reinforcements in the January transfer window.
In addition to their pursuit of Jesus, sources from GIVEMESPORT suggest that Everton could look to raid Lyon once again, with midfielder Maxence Caqueret now a target. Having already signed Jake O’Brien and Orel Mangala from Lyon this summer, the Toffees are reportedly considering another midfield addition. Caqueret, who has several admirers in the Premier League, is also said to be a target for Crystal Palace.
