That 86th-minute strike means the 37-year-old Vardy now has 142 Premier League goals in 321 appearances, placing him 15th on the all-time goal-scoring list. He is just 20 goals shy of Defoe, who holds 10th place with 162 goals.
During an appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Defoe humorously mentioned he would like Leicester to be relegated to keep his position in the top ten Premier League goal scorers. When asked by Jamie Carragher if he felt that way, the 42-year-old replied with a smile, “Well… I’m hanging on to that top ten.”
