Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt has expressed the club’s desire to bring the striker back to Brazil.
Richarlison’s time at Tottenham Hotspur since his move from Everton in 2022 has been challenging. However, one of his former clubs is now looking to help revive his career.
During his spell at Everton, Richarlison became a key player for both club and country, earning the love of fans at Goodison Park with his consistent goal-scoring performances during a difficult period for the team. Eventually, Everton had to sell the Brazilian to improve their financial situation and comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. Tottenham secured his services for £60 million. However, injuries and inconsistent form have hampered his time in North London. After missing two months this season due to a groin injury, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou indicated that Richarlison is now facing a “long-term” absence due to a hamstring issue. Postecoglou also mentioned that the club will be looking to sign another forward, raising doubts about Richarlison’s future at Tottenham.
After reports linking him to Saudi Pro League clubs in the summer, Brazilian sources suggested that Fluminense, the club that sold Richarlison to Watford in 2017, is interested in bringing him back to Brazil. The club’s president, Mario Bittencourt, confirmed the interest in an interview with Globo Esporte (via Sport Witness).
“Tottenham has said they are open to offers, but for now, they are not looking to sell the player,” Bittencourt explained. “They are willing to listen. We are also in talks with the player to see if he’s interested in returning. What is certain is that we have made a formal inquiry. We understand it won’t be easy to bring him in, but we believe he might want to be closer to the Brazilian national team and return to the club where he thrived. I have a close relationship with him, having been vice-president of football when he arrived. I was the one who brought Richarlison in. We’ve built a strong bond, not just a friendship. We’ve already sent an initial document to the English club, without an offer yet, but to gauge their willingness to negotiate.”
