Marcus Rashford to Tottenham?! Ange Postecoglou issues strong response to transfer suggestion after Man Utd forward signals intent to leave Old Trafford
Ange Postecoglou has addressed the speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford’s potential move to Tottenham, following the forward’s confirmation that he plans to leave Manchester United.
Rashford’s Departure from Manchester United The 27-year-old forward revealed this week that he is looking for a new challenge and intends to leave Old Trafford. In an interview with Henry Winter, Rashford expressed, “I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”
The Bigger Picture Although Ruben Amorim hopes Rashford will stay at United, it seems increasingly unlikely that the academy graduate will remain. His substantial £325,000-a-week salary could present a major hurdle, but Manchester United might lower the transfer fee to facilitate a move. One of the clubs previously linked with Rashford was Tottenham, but Postecoglou’s recent comments suggest that a transfer is unlikely.
Postecoglou’s Response When asked about Rashford, Postecoglou responded, “If I looked at every player we’re linked with, I’d have no time for anything else. I’ve got other people handling that part of the process. We’re focused on our objectives, and we’ll remain disciplined in that approach.”
Pressed further on whether this meant Tottenham would not pursue Rashford, the 59-year-old clarified, “That’s not on my radar. You can ask me about Marcus, or any Premier League player, and I’ll give you the same response. I’m not interested in that, don’t care. He’s a Manchester United player and a very good one, but my focus is on my own players. Other managers will manage their own, and I don’t have any desire to delve into Marcus’ situation further.”
What Lies Ahead for Rashford? Although former Premier League striker Troy Deeney believes Rashford could be a good fit for Tottenham, it seems the forward will need to look elsewhere, given Postecoglou’s stance. A move to Saudi Arabia is reportedly an option for the England international.
