“Kasper Schmeichel Reveals Shocking Secret Behind Celtic transfer and his Surprising Banter with Rangers Fans

Kasper Schmeichel has revealed an unexpected twist in how he ended up joining Celtic.

After Denmark’s early exit from Euro 2024, Schmeichel was planning a family holiday when a casual text exchange with Brendan Rodgers turned into a conversation that sealed his move to Parkhead.

Rodgers, who had managed Schmeichel at Leicester City, reached out to discuss his future, and within just ten minutes, they agreed on the goalkeeper becoming Joe Hart’s successor.

However, instead of traveling directly to Glasgow, Rodgers suggested Schmeichel take some much-needed downtime with his family. Schmeichel then completed his Celtic medical in Italy before signing his contract at an Italian restaurant.

Speaking on Ben Foster’s podcast, Fozcast, Schmeichel shared: “After Denmark’s exit from the Euros, I took a couple of days to decompress.

I was texting with Brendan, as we often do, and a few hours before my family and I were heading to the airport, Brendan asked if I had 10 minutes to chat. We ended up agreeing on everything in that short time.”

He continued, “I had about 12 days off after the Euros—more time than I had in the last few years combined. Brendan encouraged me to take that break, and we worked out the details remotely.

I did the medical in Italy, and I signed the contract in an Italian restaurant. It was a great day.”

Schmeichel also spoke about his experience settling into life in Glasgow, acknowledging the intense scrutiny players often face in Scotland.

Despite this, he has had positive interactions with Rangers fans, who have treated him with respect and light-hearted banter. “It’s a great place to live,” he said.

“The people are very welcoming. Even meeting Rangers fans, they’ve been respectful, with a bit of banter, which I appreciate. I’ve really enjoyed it here.”

Although Schmeichel takes precautions by wearing a cap or hood when out, he has largely enjoyed a smooth transition and has yet to encounter any issues. “It’s been fine so far. I haven’t had any crazy experiences, touch wood.”
