Paul Mitchell Must Sell Miguel Almiron
Sporting director Paul Mitchell failed to make a high-profile signing in the summer, but he will look to bolster the squad next month. To fund new signings, Newcastle will likely need to offload Miguel Almiron. The forward is no longer a key part of the team and it may be time to cash in on him.
Almiron joined Newcastle in 2019 for around £21 million, making 218 appearances across all competitions and scoring 30 goals. However, his return of a goal every seven games has been underwhelming, and his form this season has been especially poor, with just one Premier League start so far in 2024-25.
The 30-year-old, earning £60k per week, clearly doesn’t feature in Howe’s plans, as the manager has favored Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon ahead of him. Almiron’s contract runs until 2026, but it would be wise for Newcastle to sell him in the upcoming window.
There is reported interest from Argentine club River Plate, who could make a solid offer for the winger.
