“Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga Reveals Shocking Secret: He’s Been Getting Advice from a Tottenham Legend
Nottingham Forest defeated Brentford on Saturday, briefly climbing to third in the Premier League table.
For Anthony Elanga, it was a sense of déjà vu as he scored for the second consecutive week, helping Forest secure their third straight victory. Brian Laws praised Nuno Espirito Santo’s tactical change, which allowed Forest to become the only team to take all three points at Brentford in the 2024/25 season.
Before last week’s match against Villa, Elanga hadn’t scored since February, but like a bus arriving in succession, he followed up his home goal with another strike at Brentford.
Elanga had earned praise from Theo Walcott last week, and after scoring again against the Bees, he revealed he had been seeking advice to improve his finishing and play in the final third.
Anthony Elanga Seeks Advice from Tottenham Legend Jermain Defoe
Interestingly, it seems Elanga has found a mentor in former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, who Elanga says texted him this week. He told BBC Sport: “I received a nice message from Jermain Defoe. It’s about getting into the box—those are the areas where you score the most goals. I focus on that in training to build muscle memory and want to replicate that in games.”
Elanga’s Performance as Forest Beat Brentford
It was a productive afternoon for Elanga, as Espirito Santo decided to start both of his wingers, opting for an extra defender. Elanga played on the right wing, putting in a solid performance and earning his second goal of the season.
Some of the criticism of Elanga’s form had been somewhat harsh, but as a young player, he naturally experiences highs and lows. Fortunately, Elanga is supported by Espirito Santo and is clearly gaining confidence from the backing of his manager.
