Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son faced criticism from Gary Neville following Spurs’ heavy 6-3 defeat to Liverpool at home on Sunday.
While many Tottenham players were scrutinized for their performances, Neville specifically singled out Son for his failure to press Trent Alexander-Arnold effectively. Neville believes this allowed Liverpool’s right-back to control the game and exploit Tottenham’s defensive weaknesses.

In the second half, Mohamed Salah scored twice in quick succession, bringing the score to 5-1. Spurs showed some fight, with Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke pulling two goals back, but Diaz’s late strike sealed a dominant victory for Liverpool.
Gary Neville Criticizes Heung-min Son
On The Gary Neville Podcast, the former Manchester United defender pointed out Son’s tactical mistakes, particularly his poor decision-making when pressing Alexander-Arnold.
Neville said:
“They had some experienced players up top, I think Son was one of the worst actually, and I love him to bits, world-class player. But some of his actual decisions to leave Trent Alexander-Arnold, go and press Joe Gomez or go somewhere else and then leave that space for Alexander-Arnold to exploit was just nonsensical. It was mind-boggling, really.”

It wasn’t just the players who came under fire.
