BAD NEWS”- Brendan Rodgers provides injury update on vital Celtic star after Motherwell hammering

Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on an injury concern for Celtic ahead of the weekend.

The Hoops delivered a dominant 4-0 victory over Motherwell at Parkhead this afternoon, where the scoreline could have been even more one-sided.

Motherwell failed to register a single shot on target as Celtic’s defense remained resolute throughout.

Anthony Ralston played at right-back in place of Canadian international Alistair Johnston, who was unavailable due to an injury issue.

Rodgers was asked by BBC Sportsound’s Kheredine Idessane if Johnston would be fit for Sunday’s match against St Johnstone, and the Celtic manager offered a positive update. He revealed that the 26-year-old could have played today but was rested as a precaution to avoid further risk, especially with the upcoming Glasgow derby against Rangers on January 2.

Rodgers’ update on Johnston’s fitness
Rodgers told BBC: “Yeah, he should hopefully be okay for the weekend. He was close for today but we just left it. Tony has come in and done a great job for us. Ali has been improving each day, and we just want him to do more work and then hopefully be okay for the weekend.”

Arne Engels gave Celtic the lead with a penalty in the first half, later admitting that any Celtic player could have taken the spot-kick after the team’s penalty practice following their Premier Sports Cup Final win.

How Celtic triumphed over Motherwell in a 4-0 rout
The scoreline was doubled early in the second half when Daizen Maeda scored with a diving header from a corner. Substitute Nicolas Kuhn added a third before another substitute, Reo Hatate, rounded off the 4-0 victory with a goal nine minutes from time.

After the match, Rodgers emphasized his desire for attacking reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window.
