Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, putting increased pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.
Despite goals from Brennan Johnson and Rodrigo Bentancur, Spurs couldn’t hold onto their lead after Jørgen Strand Larsen netted a late equalizer for Wolves.
The result leaves Tottenham 11th in the Premier League, 11 points adrift of the Champions League spots, with their aspirations of securing European football fading fast.
The draw extends Spurs’ winless run to three matches, having lost two and conceded nine goals in the last stretch. Defensive injuries continue to disrupt the team, but the underperformance of several players is just as concerning.
Disappointing Performers Against Wolves
Dominic Solanke, the club’s record £65m signing from Bournemouth, has been a key figure in attack this season, scoring six goals. However, the striker was ineffective in this match, looking off his game.
He completed only one of four attempted dribbles, won just six of 16 duels, and lost possession 11 times.
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster also failed to impress, conceding two goals in his tenth appearance of the season.
While he was beaten by an excellent strike from Hwang Hee-chan for the opener, Forster should have done better to prevent the equalizer, getting beaten too easily at his near post.
Captain Son Struggles Again
Tottenham’s captain, Heung-min Son, has been one of the club’s standout performers over the years, but his recent form has been worrying. The South Korean attacker has only five Premier League goals so far this season, and his performance against Wolves was another forgettable one.
Son lasted just 64 minutes before being substituted for Timo Werner, a move that was understandable given his lack of influence on the game. He made only 27 touches, completing just 15 passes, and lost possession six times.
His penalty miss in the first half proved costly, as Spurs would likely have claimed the three points had he scored. Son also failed to complete any of his three crosses and struggled to dribble past defenders, leaving many to wonder if his best days are behind him.
His poor performance earned him a 4/10 rating from Football London’s Alasdair Gold, reflecting his disappointing display. Given his ongoing struggles, Postecoglou may need to consider dropping Son from the starting lineup for Tottenham’s next match against Newcastle United.
It’s difficult to see the decline of a fan-favorite who has given so much to the club over the years, but Postecoglou may need to make a tough decision to save his job and help Spurs climb back up the Premier League table.
