Leeds United climbed back to the top of the Championship last night with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Derby County at Pride Park.
The match lacked quality for most of its duration, until the 79th minute, when a brilliant team move saw Brenden Aaronson score, securing three vital points for Daniel Farke’s side.
This win marks an impressive six-game unbeaten streak for the Whites, having won 15 matches as they enter the second half of the season. Fans are starting to dream of a Premier League return by the end of May.
However, the victory was a reminder that no win in the Championship comes easy, as Leeds had to wait until late in the match to break Derby’s resistance.
Although the win will please Farke, some players’ performances were disappointing, which could jeopardize their starting positions in the near future.

Joseph, who was expected to lead the attack in the 2024/25 season, showed little evidence of being able to fill that role. In 71 minutes, he managed just 24 touches and completed only eight passes, leading to his eventual substitution. He also won just one of nine duels, losing 89%, and wasted several shooting opportunities.
Joseph received a 5/10 match rating from Leeds Live journalist Jack Flintham, underscoring his underwhelming performance. To make matters worse for the young striker, Piroe came on as a substitute and provided the assist for Aaronson’s winning goal, which could reduce Joseph’s chances of retaining his starting role against Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Day.
This season, Joseph has scored just twice in the Championship, averaging a goal every 12 games—far below the expectations for a player hoping to be a regular starter. Given his current form, Farke may consider bringing in reinforcements during the January transfer window. After this performance, it’s likely that Joseph will lose his place in the starting lineup for the upcoming match.
