Leeds United enters the second half of the season in another tight race for automatic promotion. Sheffield United, Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland all look set to battle for a top-two finish in the Championship until the very end.
Daniel Farke’s side has been impressive at Elland Road, winning their last nine home league games. However, it is their away form that is holding them back, with dropped points at Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, and Preston North End in the past two months.
In each of these away matches, Leeds conceded early in the first half and only managed to equalize late in the game.
Why Largie Ramazani Should Play More
For these away games, Farke has usually fielded a front four of Wilfried Gnonto, Brenden Aaronson, Dan James, and Joel Piroe. However, with the exception of James, these players have struggled with their form recently, and this combination has not been effective on the road.
Gnonto, Aaronson, and Piroe all prefer receiving the ball to feet, making it easier for opposition defenses to absorb Leeds’ pressure. To address this, Farke could consider giving more playing time to Largie Ramazani.
The “electric” Ramazani, who joined from UD Almeria in the summer, has started just six games due to an ankle injury in late October that disrupted his momentum. Although he has been fit for over a month, Farke has used him only intermittently.
Farke has recognized Ramazani’s ability to create something out of nothing, a quality that has been sorely lacking in Leeds’ recent away matches. Ramazani’s dribbling, quick play, and willingness to take shots from distance could bring a much-needed spark to the team.
If Farke can find a way to integrate him into the starting lineup—whether centrally or on the wing—it might be the key to improving Leeds’ away form and boosting their promotion chances.
Leeds’ Away Record with and without Ramazani
Leeds remains unbeaten in away games that Ramazani has started, although the sample size is small. In one of the two draws he featured in, Leeds had secured all three points against Sunderland, only to lose them after Illan Meslier’s costly mistake in the final minute.
