“Carragher Shocks Fans on Sky Sports MNF: Moyes to Replace Dyche at Everton?
David Moyes could be a potential candidate to replace Sean Dyche at Everton, according to Jamie Carragher.
In his analysis of the club’s situation, Carragher noted that Everton fans are divided on whether Dyche should be dismissed at this point. He suggested that Moyes, a foreign manager, or an out-of-work coach might be options to take over at Goodison Park.
However, he expressed support for Dyche, believing he is the right person to ensure the club avoids relegation.
“There’s definitely a divide among Everton supporters on whether they want Sean Dyche to leave now,” Carragher said on Sky Sports MNF (January 6). “Some fans might want a change, possibly at the end of the season.”
He added that many fans worry about the risk of relegation if a new manager is brought in at this stage. “A manager out of work or maybe a foreign manager, perhaps David Moyes, could be the answer, but I think it’s important to keep in mind that the primary concern is staying in the Premier League,” Carragher continued. “Everton need to be in the top flight with their new stadium coming, and while Dyche may not guarantee safety, his track record gives a strong chance of avoiding the drop.”
Carragher’s view is rooted in Dyche’s proven ability to avoid relegation, a feat he accomplished at Burnley and at Everton in the previous two seasons. However, the current season sees Everton just one point above the relegation zone after 19 matches. They have the opportunity to extend that lead to four points with a win in hand, but their form has been concerning, with only two wins in their last 10 Premier League games.
Even more troubling is Everton’s lack of goals, having scored just five since November. This is a poor return, particularly when compared to the league’s bottom club, Southampton, who managed seven goals during the same period.
Given these issues, it may be time for Everton’s ownership to consider parting ways with Dyche and appointing a new manager to spark improvement.
Additionally, in transfer news, Everton are preparing a £16.6m bid for a defender this month.
