“Spurs Fans Are Going Crazy Over What Alasdair Gold Said Right After Tottenham’s Stunning Win Against Liverpool
Lucas Bergvall grabbed the spotlight as Tottenham Hotspur triumphed over Liverpool in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

However, Tottenham’s defenders, along with debutant goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, put in a resilient performance, providing the foundation for a dramatic late victory—and a bit of controversy. Liverpool’s players and staff were furious when the referee failed to issue a second yellow card to Spurs midfielder Bergvall for a late challenge on Kostas Tsimikas. It was a tackle deserving of a booking, but the Swedish teenager had already received a yellow in the 68th minute, so he might feel the incidents balanced out.
Incredibly, moments later, Bergvall was in the right place to receive a pass from Dominic Solanke in the box and, showing remarkable composure, he scored his first-ever Spurs goal in the 85th minute to secure the win.
Bergvall’s performance was widely praised, including by Spurs expert Alasdair Gold, who rated his display at 9/10. Gold highlighted Bergvall’s strong performance, noting he had only misplaced four passes out of 26 and created three chances, including two big ones. He also had four touches in the opposition box, while defensively contributing with three tackles, three recoveries, and two clearances.
Gold wrote for Football.London: “A busy display and tackled Alisson early in the second half to set up Porro for a chance. Picked up an unfortunate first yellow card and should have gotten a second, but was fortunate that play continued. He capitalized on the opportunity and slotted home from Solanke’s pass shortly after. He managed a full game and is adapting quickly.”
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou also lauded Bergvall’s performance: “Lucas was brilliant… He’s growing all the time. He has the ability to create space for himself, the quality, and he works incredibly hard for the team.”
