“It was something nobody expected”- Morato reveals HEARTFELT Meaning Behind His Special Tattoo, EMOTIONAL Story behind Nottingham Forest Star’s tribute leaves everyone shocked
Nottingham Forest defender Morato carries a tattoo on his right forearm that holds deep personal significance. While most of his tattoos are spontaneous and based on what he feels like getting, one, in particular, is a tribute to his sister, Rafaela, who passed away from cancer over six years ago. The tattoo serves as a reminder of her, and Morato continues to play in her honor.
“I can’t help but think about her in moments like that,” he says. “It was something nobody expected. I always talk about her with my family, and I’ll always remember her.”
Morato explains that the tattoo of his sister is meaningful, while the others hold no specific significance, just ones he chose in the moment.
Losing his sister also led to a special bond with a young fan, Larissa, who had brain cancer. Morato met her while playing for São Paulo’s youth team, and she became a source of inspiration for the squad. In 2019, before the final of the prestigious Copinha tournament, the São Paulo players shaved their heads in solidarity with Larissa. But Morato took it a step further by asking Larissa to shave his head for him in the dressing room.
“She had cancer in Brazil and had followed all our youth matches,” Morato recalls. “It was particularly emotional for me because I had lost my sister to cancer just months earlier. At the end of the tournament, we gave her a special present that I will never forget, and I hope she won’t either. I still keep in touch with her.”
Morato scored a penalty in the shootout, helping São Paulo win the Copinha, but it’s his defensive contributions that have been most notable at Forest. Since his summer move from Benfica, Morato has mainly come off the bench but has made a significant impact in the Reds’ defense. In the 13 appearances he’s made so far, the team has conceded only one goal while he’s been on the pitch—a stat he’s proud of.
“Absolutely, that’s my job,” Morato reflects. “When I’m called upon, I need to help keep the goals out and shore up the defense. I’m proud to do that. The manager has shown faith in me, putting me in for big games, and I think that will continue.”
Morato could feature in Forest’s FA Cup match against Luton Town this afternoon, with a win extending their current seven-match winning streak. Forest are also in strong form in the Premier League, with European football a realistic goal. Morato is well aware of the club’s history in Europe, particularly their European Cup success under Brian Clough.
“I knew about Forest’s history before I came,” he says. “As a kid, I didn’t have much access to watching matches, but I followed English football. Brazilians know about Nottingham Forest. It’s a historic club, and now it feels even more special to be a part of it, especially in what feels like the best moment the club has had since those glory days.”
