Rangers are reportedly at the forefront of the race to sign a Scottish Premiership midfielder after intensifying their interest, according to recent reports.
Rangers Struggling Against Weaker Teams
Rangers began 2025 with a statement 3-0 victory over their rivals Celtic at Ibrox, a result that was expected to spark a strong run. However, they have since struggled against some of the weaker teams in the league. Philippe Clement’s side has drawn their last two matches, most recently failing to defeat Dundee despite dominating possession. With little chance of closing the gap to Celtic, their season has been disappointing overall.
Despite these struggles, Clement has continued to enjoy the backing of the board, with CEO Patrick Stewart recently stating, “We are backing Philippe at this time as a board. It’s about addressing the issues, staying focused, and building a stronger future for the club. Changing a manager isn’t a quick fix.”
For Rangers to challenge for the league title next season, however, Clement will likely need to bolster his squad, and he has reportedly identified a key target in midfield.
Rangers Eye Dundee Midfielder Lyall Cameron
According to The Sun, Rangers have ramped up their pursuit of Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron, with the potential to sign him on a pre-contract agreement. Cameron’s contract is nearing its end, meaning the Light Blues could secure his signature for free at the end of the season if Dundee is unable to negotiate a new deal.
Clement is said to be a big admirer of the 22-year-old, and Rangers are now leading the race to land him this summer.
Cameron Could Follow in Barron’s Footsteps
Connor Barron, who joined Rangers from Aberdeen last summer, has quickly become an integral part of the team, starting nearly every Premiership game this season. Cameron’s strong performances for Dundee suggest he could follow a similar path. The midfielder has scored eight goals and registered seven assists in 27 appearances across all competitions, demonstrating his versatility by excelling in attacking, defensive, and left-midfield roles.
