Despite the win, it was a lackluster performance from Ange Postecoglou’s team, who failed to score in regular time against the National League side.
One player who particularly struggled was centre-forward Timo Werner, who was selected to lead the attack ahead of Dominic Solanke. Werner had a chance to prove his worth for more Premier League minutes but fell short.
Although he provided two key passes and created one “big chance,” his finishing was subpar, missing two clear-cut opportunities, including one where he was through on goal but shot directly at the goalkeeper.
Werner was not alone in underperforming, with teenage winger Mikey Moore also having a tough time against the lower-league opposition. Moore, making his first start since October following a period out with illness, showed a lack of match sharpness.
He lost possession 15 times in 68 minutes, more than Werner despite playing 22 minutes less, and failed to register a shot on target. Although he did create a big chance, Moore’s performance was unconvincing, making him just as ineffective as Werner during the match.
With a crucial Premier League clash against Arsenal coming up on Wednesday, Postecoglou should consider dropping both players from the starting lineup due to their poor showings against Tamworth. Moore, given his recent fitness issues, could still be included as a potential substitute for the match at the Emirates.
