New Sunderland Signing Enzo Le Fee Eager to Prove Himself After Shock Move
Enzo Le Fee, Sunderland’s latest signing, is determined to prove his worth on the pitch after his surprise move to the club. The French midfielder joined the Black Cats last week and was officially unveiled during their FA Cup match against Stoke City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Le Fee is excited to play in front of Sunderland’s passionate supporters and is eager to showcase his skills in the heart of their midfield. He is expected to feature in the upcoming match against Burnley on Friday, with a potential start on the cards.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has joined Sunderland on loan from Italian giants AS Roma until the end of the season. With over 180 top-flight appearances across Europe, including in the Europa League, Le Fee brings a wealth of experience to Wearside. His arrival is seen as a major coup for the club as he looks to test himself in English football.
Le Fee arrived in Wearside last Thursday to undergo a medical and finalize the move. Speaking about his excitement, he said, “I’ve really been excited to meet people. It’s been a really good day. I’m very happy. I just need to prove it on the pitch. I think it’s the most important thing. I’m waiting to play but I am very excited to play in front of the fans. That’s what I am waiting for. The training ground is really nice. It is a really big club. For me, that is normal though. I’m very happy to be here.”
The midfielder’s connection with Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris is strong, as Le Fee was developed under Le Bris’ guidance at FC Lorient, where the two worked together during his rise through the youth ranks. Reflecting on the transfer, Le Fee said, “I spoke with him for a long time on the phone. That’s one of the reasons why I am here. I know him and I know how he wants to play so I am sure that I will enjoy that with the team.”
Before joining Roma in the summer of 2024, Le Fee had been a key player for Lorient for four years and also had a stint at Stade Rennais. His move to Sunderland reunites him with several familiar faces, including Wilson Isidor, Adil Aouchiche, and Salis Abdul Samed. Le Fee added, “There are some familiar faces with Wilson, Adil, and Salis. I played against them in Ligue 1, and they are top players, so I’m sure I will enjoy playing with them together.”
