“That is RIDICULOUS, i couldn’t have asked for more”- Arne Slot clarifies his confrontation with the referee regarding Nottingham Forest’s time-wasting tactics.
Arne Slot has expressed his frustration with the referee and what he perceived as Nottingham Forest’s play-acting as Liverpool dropped more points in the title race.
Liverpool fell behind early at the City Ground when Chris Wood scored in the 8th minute, against the run of play. They struggled to create many chances for most of the match until Diogo Jota’s equalizer – which came just 22 seconds after he entered the field, and with his first touch – sparked a late push, though it ultimately came to nothing.
This result marks the second consecutive game where Liverpool has dropped points, allowing title rivals Arsenal the chance to close the gap if they beat Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Slot was seen repeatedly tapping his watch during the match, and he suggested that Forest players feigned injury to waste time in the final stages of the game.
“I couldn’t have asked for more,” Slot said to TNT Sports. “The second-half performance was outstanding. Not many teams can create so many chances against a team that defends so well.”
“After the United game, I mentioned that whenever you have the ball, you’re essentially trying to get past 11 players. That’s their strength.”
“First, you have to defend well, which is already tough because of their quick wingers. Then you have to win the second ball, and if you do, they just drop back into a low block with all 11 players packed in front of their box.”
“It’s difficult for any team to break them down, so I was really pleased with our second-half performance, as we kept creating chances.”
“There were also moments when it took a while for the play to restart,” Slot continued. “You want as much playing time as possible, but when you’re up against a team happy with the result, they want to limit the playing time.”
“For example, players would go down when there was no head injury, the referee would blow his whistle, and no treatment was provided.”
“These are the moments you try to address, but ultimately, that’s not why we drew the game. Nottingham Forest played very well, defending with discipline, while we can take pride in our strong second-half display.”
