LATEST TRANSFER BOMBSHELL: Leeds United are hoping to replicate the success of their Ao Tanaka acquisition as the 49ers make a new push in the transfer market.
Leeds United have yet to make significant moves in the January transfer window, despite the lessons they should have learned from last winter’s activity under Daniel Farke.
On Monday, Charlie Crew completed his loan move to Doncaster Rovers, and Joe Gelhardt is expected to follow suit today, with Hull City set to be his loan destination. However, aside from these moves, there has been little transfer activity at Elland Road. Other Leeds players are generating interest, with Blackburn manager John Eustace confirming his desire to sign Patrick Bamford.
In January last year, Leeds only brought in Connor Roberts on loan, while Ipswich made several signings, including Kieffer Moore, which helped them secure second place in the league.
Leeds United Make Bid for Dje D’avilla Midfielder
According to reports from Portugal, however, that could soon change. Sport TV reporter Sebastiao Sousa Pinto states that Leeds have submitted an offer for Dje D’avilla, a midfielder from Union de Leiria.
The 21-year-old Ivory Coast international has yet to earn a cap for his national team, which may complicate his work permit application. Despite this, several clubs are said to be interested in the player. Union de Leiria are reportedly asking for £3.4m for D’avilla, and Leeds are willing to meet this asking price—similar to the fee they paid for Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Düsseldorf. Pinto reported on X that Leeds’ offer includes performance-based objectives, and the transfer is considered challenging due to the work permit situation.
If completed, this could be a smart acquisition, and potentially one of the best signings of Daniel Farke’s tenure, which has also seen players like Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Sam Byram, Jaydem Bogle, and Joel Piroe join the club.
Contrasting Reports on D’avilla Transfer
While sources in Portugal suggest Leeds have made a move for D’avilla, the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) reports otherwise. Given the YEP’s Leeds-based sources and the club’s tendency to keep transfers under wraps, such discrepancies are not unusual. The signing of Joe Rothwell in the summer, for instance, flew under the radar.
The YEP has stated that reports from Portugal regarding a bid for D’avilla are inaccurate, but only time will tell. Farke has frequently been linked with players from lower-tier European leagues, much like the move for Tanaka.
