‘I want to be clear’ – Carlo Ancelotti breaks silence on Real Madrid exit decision
Carlo Ancelotti, the former Everton manager, has addressed rumors about his future amidst speculation that he could be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Ancelotti, who returned to Madrid in 2021 after leaving Goodison Park, has had a successful second stint at the club.
Under his leadership, Real Madrid won both La Liga and the Champions League in the 2021/22 season and repeated the same achievements last year.
With a record of 143 wins, 32 draws, and 29 losses from 204 matches, Ancelotti has enjoyed considerable success during his time at the helm.
However, this season has proven challenging for Madrid. While they currently lead La Liga, they are only two points ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid, and the competition for the title is intense.
In the Champions League, they’ve won three and lost three of their six group-stage matches.
This, combined with his contract nearing its final 18 months, has sparked increased speculation about Ancelotti’s future.
Reports from Onda Cero suggest that Ancelotti, who previously managed Chelsea and Bayern Munich, could leave Madrid in the summer, with former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso seen as a potential replacement.
Ancelotti addressed these rumors during a pre-match press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against RB Salzburg. “I want to be very clear, the date of departure from this club will never be decided by me, never in my life,” he stated. “Someday that time will come, but I don’t know when it will be.
I don’t decide. It could be tomorrow, in a few games, in a year… in five years. Florentino [Perez] will remain here for four more years, and my goal is to reach Florentino’s four years and then say goodbye together.”
Ancelotti previously had a successful tenure at Everton, taking over from Marco Silva in December 2019. He managed to secure 31 wins from 67 matches, leading the club to a 10th-place finish in the Premier League, a position the team has not surpassed under subsequent managers.
