Brighton’s versatile midfielder Jack Hinshelwood could make his return for the Seagulls against Everton at the Amex Stadium tomorrow.
Hinshelwood, who featured in all of Brighton’s first eight Premier League matches this season, suffered a knee injury during the 2-1 win over Manchester City in September. The 20-year-old academy graduate has been sidelined for the last 11 league matches while recovering but is now expected to be available for selection.
“He will be an option, and I’m quite positive he will be ready,” said Brighton manager Hurzeler during his pre-match press conference.
Hinshelwood was seen training with the squad this week, and his comeback will provide a boost for Albion, who are currently in ninth place.
Additionally, £25m summer signing Brajan Gruda, who has missed the last two wins over Ipswich and Manchester United, is also set to return to the squad.
“Brajan has trained the last two days,” Hurzeler confirmed. “I think both he and Jack will be available for the weekend.”
However, midfielders James Milner (hamstring), Ferdi Kadioglu (toe), and Mats Wieffer (knee) remain unavailable, while a late decision will be made on Matt O’Riley, who is dealing with a knee issue.
“O’Riley has a small knee problem. He took a hit to his knee and is in some pain,” Hurzeler explained. “It’s a matter of time to see if he can overcome it. We’ll assess him in the next few days.”
This situation could give January signing Diego Gomez another opportunity. Gomez made his debut as a late substitute in the 3-1 win at Old Trafford last week.
“Diego offers something we don’t currently have,” Hurzeler said. “He has a unique profile. He’s a warrior on the pitch, very dynamic and strong in one-on-one duels.
“We need to give him more game time to help him integrate quickly, but also allow him to adapt to the pace and intensity here. I’ve really enjoyed working with him so far. He’s a player who constantly pushes himself and always strives to give more than 100 percent, which is exactly the kind of player I value.”
