After earning a spot in Tottenham’s starting eleven, Lucas Bergvall has reflected on his decision to snub Barcelona’s interest and join Spurs instead.
Spurs Beat Barcelona to Land Lucas Bergvall
Tottenham managed to secure Bergvall’s signature in January of last year, outbidding Barcelona, who were also keen on the Swedish midfielder.
Bergvall officially joined Spurs last summer, despite reports suggesting that Barcelona had a verbal agreement with the player before Tottenham swooped in with a more lucrative offer.
Bergvall Reflects on His Tottenham Move
In May of last year, Bergvall explained that he chose Spurs over Barcelona because he felt the North London club was a better fit for him.
Early in his Spurs career, Bergvall struggled to find regular playing time, and there were moments when he may have questioned his decision.
However, the 18-year-old has since settled into Premier League life, becoming a more consistent presence in the team over the past two months and continuing to improve with each match.
The teenager now says he has no regrets about his choice and shared insights into the challenges of adjusting to Premier League football.
Speaking to The Sun, Bergvall said: “When I made my decision, I felt Tottenham was the best club for me. It’s a great club with big ambitions.
I feel like I’m getting better every day. Training with the team and the staff, I’m adapting.
Coming from the Swedish league, it’s not an easy transition. Everything is different— the running, the physicality… everything.”

It’s not just manager Ange Postecoglou and Spurs fans who are impressed by Bergvall, but also his teammates.
Pape Sarr has praised the young midfielder, describing him as a technically gifted player with a calmness on the ball that makes him stand out.
The Senegalese international is confident that Bergvall has the potential to become one of the world’s best if he continues to work hard.
Sarr told The Sun: “Lucas is a great player. I love his style. He’s always calm on the ball and technically, he’s fantastic. He has all the qualities to become one of the best players in the world. With hard work, he’ll reach the very top.”
