Everton now eyeing late move to sign £50k-p/w PL striker instead of Igamane
Everton are reportedly considering a last-minute move for a Premier League striker, shifting focus away from the heavily linked Hamza Igamane, as they aim to strengthen David Moyes’ attacking options in the battle to avoid relegation.
Moyes’ Immediate Impact
David Moyes, who replaced Sean Dyche earlier in January, has made an immediate difference at Everton.
Despite a narrow loss to Aston Villa in his first Premier League match back, back-to-back victories over Tottenham and Brighton have pushed the Toffees seven points clear of the relegation zone.
Next up is a crucial match against Leicester City as they aim to pull further away from the bottom three.
However, despite the recent victories, Everton’s struggles in front of goal remain a concern. They are still the second-lowest scorers in the league, even after a 3-0 win over Spurs.
Moyes has acknowledged the need for reinforcements in attack, stating, “We will definitely need to do something and find ways to act if we can.
But if it’s not going to improve things, there’s no point in wasting money. We need to bring in someone better than what we have.”
Unfortunately, the Toffees have been hit by injuries to key forwards, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin sidelined with a hamstring issue and Dwight McNeil out with a knee problem.
Everton has been heavily linked with a move for Rangers striker Hamza Igamane, with hopes of completing a deal before the transfer window closes.
However, Tottenham’s interest in Igamane and Rangers’ reluctance to sell mid-season could complicate the transfer, potentially pricing Everton out of the deal.
New Target: Taiwo Awoniyi
In a twist, a new report from Italy suggests that Everton is now eyeing another Premier League striker, Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest, as a potential late addition.
The Nigerian forward has struggled for consistent playing time at Forest due to the form of Chris Wood, making just 158 minutes across 18 substitute appearances this season. Everton could offer Awoniyi the chance for more regular first-team football at Goodison Park.
Awoniyi, who was hailed as “outstanding” after joining Forest, has reportedly caught the attention of the Toffees as they seek a solution to their attacking woes.
With his £50,000-a-week wages not posing a significant hurdle, Everton are now weighing the option of making a move for him in the final days of the transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether Nottingham Forest would allow Awoniyi to leave so late in the window, but if the deal for Igamane falls through, Everton’s focus could shift toward the Nigerian forward as they look to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.
