“Chris Wood’s Hat Trick Sparks Nottingham Forest’s Unbelievable 7-0 Victory – Are They the New Premier League Title Contenders?
Nottingham Forest and striker Chris Wood had a sensational performance in the Premier League on Saturday, thrashing Brighton 7-0.
Wood, the 33-year-old New Zealand international, netted a hat trick, bringing his total to 17 goals for the season—the most prolific of his Premier League career. Only Mohamed Salah (19 goals) of Liverpool and Erling Haaland (18 goals) of Manchester City have scored more this season.
In addition to Wood’s heroics, Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams, and Jota Silva all found the back of the net, with an own-goal by Lewis Dunk opening the scoring. This dominant win helped Forest, currently third in the league, level on 47 points with second-place Arsenal, making them one of the biggest surprises of the Premier League season.
The victory marked Forest’s largest win since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.
Meanwhile, Liverpool, sitting six points ahead of Forest with two games in hand, is set to face in-form Bournemouth later.
After battling relegation last season, Forest now has a legitimate chance of qualifying for the Champions League, which would return them to Europe’s top competition—a feat they accomplished when winning the European Cup in 1979 and 1980.
Saturday’s Premier League action also includes six games, such as Newcastle hosting Fulham and a clash between the bottom two teams, Ipswich and Southampton.
