However, Buendia ultimately joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan, leaving Farke to reflect on what could have been.
A missed opportunity: Leeds’ version of Buendia Even the most dedicated Leeds supporter might struggle to remember Mateusz Bogusz’s brief and inconsistent time at Elland Road, with the Polish midfielder only making three appearances for the senior team.
Frequently loaned out instead of being given more chances to prove himself, Leeds may now regret not offering him more opportunities, especially considering his development since leaving the club.
After his underwhelming stint at Leeds, Bogusz signed for LAFC in MLS, where he enjoyed a remarkable season, contributing to 31 goals in 48 matches.
A versatile forward, Bogusz was particularly effective in the number ten role, a position where Buendia thrived. At 23, Bogusz could have been an ideal alternative for Farke to rely on.
During his time in Los Angeles, football journalist Greg Beacham described him as a “dangerous” attacker. Bogusz has since moved to Cruz Azul to continue advancing his career.
While there is a clear gap between MLS and the pressures of English football, Leeds may still feel a sense of regret for not giving Bogusz a proper opportunity to shine.
With neither Bogusz nor Buendia available, Farke will now have to hope that Brenden Aaronson, the team’s only true number ten, can stay healthy and avoid fatigue during the remainder of the season.
