“Tottenham Crisis: Romano Drops Bombshell on Postecoglou’s Job Security – ‘No One Happy’
Fabrizio Romano has shared Tottenham Hotspur’s position on potentially dismissing head coach Ange Postecoglou following their FA Cup elimination on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs are having a difficult season, currently sitting in the lower half of the Premier League, only ten points above the relegation zone.
In September 2024, Postecoglou, who was widely considered a candidate to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked, put pressure on himself by claiming he “always wins” a trophy in his second season. He said: “I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year [with a team]. Nothing’s changed.”
These remarks have not aged well, especially after Spurs were knocked out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the same week.
Tottenham took a 1-0 aggregate lead into their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool but were thrashed 4-0 at Anfield. Then, on Sunday, Aston Villa defeated Spurs 2-1 at Villa Park to advance to the FA Cup fifth round.
Before Tottenham’s loss to Villa, a report from GiveMeSport suggested that a defeat could leave Postecoglou “on the brink.”
According to GMS sources, “Postecoglou’s position will come under scrutiny if Tottenham are eliminated from two cup competitions in just a few days. The manner of the loss to Liverpool has led to doubts about whether he will be allowed to finish the season.”
However, GMS sources also noted that key figures at Tottenham remain fully supportive of Postecoglou. Chairman Daniel Levy’s decision to invest in the transfer market before the end of the winter window was seen as a sign of his backing. Still, a loss to Aston Villa could jeopardize Postecoglou’s future.
Despite this, Romano reports that “there are still no indications of changes at Spurs.”
Romano told GiveMeSport: “At the moment, there are no indications of any changes at Spurs. Of course, no one is happy with the current situation, but there is no sign of imminent changes. Let’s see in the coming days and after the next few matches.”
Postecoglou, speaking after the match, expressed his “disappointment” at failing to progress in the FA Cup.
“Obviously disappointed we don’t progress,” he said. “It wasn’t a great start, that’s the last thing you want, and we really struggled to get control. Then we had a huge chance at 1-0 to equalize but didn’t take it.”
“We got a better grip on the game, but unfortunately fell short. Going a goal down gives the opposition momentum and confidence. You want to take control early, and we didn’t do that.”
