Leicester City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday, with Mikel Merino scoring a late brace as a substitute.

The match was closely contested, as the scoreline indicates, but Leicester struggled to produce a moment of quality. Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri delivered a brilliant cross that Merino converted with a header late in the game, and the Spaniard added another goal just minutes from full-time.

Merino’s quickfire double would have been a bitter pill for Ruud van Nistelrooy to swallow, as his side defended well and looked dangerous on the counter-attack.

This result came despite Leicester fans protesting against Jon Rudkin in the 14th minute, expressing their frustrations with the man seen as largely responsible for the club’s struggles.

A quiet game for Hermansen until the final moments, where he was beaten by both of Merino’s goals.

James Justin – 6
Justin had a solid first half, defending well against Raheem Sterling, but was substituted at halftime due to injury.

Wout Faes – 5.5
Faes had a tough time, often targeted as a weak link. Arsenal didn’t trouble him much until Merino scored, but he lost the Spaniard for the opening goal.

Caleb Okoli – 6.5
Okoli showed good defensive strength and athleticism, dealing well with Arsenal’s attack.

Victor Kristiansen – 3
A difficult match for Kristiansen, who struggled against the pace of Arsenal’s 17-year-old star, Ethan Nwaneri.
