Newcastle United were made to look completely outclassed by Manchester City on Saturday, as the Premier League champions returned to their best form.
Heading into the match at the Etihad, Newcastle were full of confidence despite their poor record at City’s home ground. Unfortunately, they were handed a 4-0 defeat, with their passive approach making it appear as though City hadn’t experienced any recent struggles in form.
It was another disheartening day for the away fans, who have grown accustomed to such results during trips to City in recent years.
None of the Newcastle players stood out in a positive way. Kieran Trippier was heavily criticized by supporters, while pundit Chris Sutton took aim at Lewis Hall.
What made the defeat even more frustrating was the ease with which Manchester City scored their goals.
After the match, City goalkeeper Ederson offered some insight.

“They’re a tough team to play against because they mark man-to-man,” Ederson said on Manchester City’s official website. “I see the space, and because they go man-to-man, the free player is the goalkeeper. Up front, they’re man-to-man, and we have fast players like Savinho, Marmoush, and Erling, so it’s easy to just put the ball there.”

Newcastle were simply outplayed and overwhelmed at the Etihad once again.
