Ex-PGMOL chief claims Leeds United player could be ‘investigated’ after incident vs Sunderland
Leeds United forward Largie Ramazani could face an “investigation” by the FA following his celebrations after Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat at Elland Road on Monday, according to former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett.
Sunderland suffered a damaging loss against their promotion rivals, conceding a last-minute goal that leaves them 10 points behind Leeds and eight points adrift of the automatic promotion spots.
Emotions ran high for the Leeds players after their dramatic last-gasp winner and the final whistle, with Ramazani drawing attention for his post-match reaction.
The Belgian, who came on as a substitute for Daniel Farke, celebrated directly in Luke O’Nien’s face after Pascal Struijk scored in the 95th minute. He then appeared to taunt Dan Neil as the referee, Stuart Atwell, ended the game.
Reflecting on the incident in an interview with MOT Leeds News, Hackett suggested that Ramazani could face retrospective punishment. He said: “This incident will be investigated by the Football Association.
It will be interesting to see if any of the match officials saw the incident and included it in their special incident report form.”
In addition to Ramazani’s actions, Leeds manager Farke was also booked for his celebrations after Struijk’s winner and will be banned from the touchline for next Monday’s crucial clash against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Speaking about his yellow card in a post-match interview, Farke said: “I always have a really good relationship with all referees, and I accept what they decide.
I never thought I would get a yellow card for celebrating, especially when you score a winner in the 95th minute. I’ll have to watch it back to see if it was deserved.
I can’t really remember if it was something that wasn’t appropriate in the moment.”
Ex-Leeds manager Neil Warnock criticized Farke’s booking in his post-match analysis for Sky Sports, calling it a “disgrace.”
He questioned why no yellow card was issued to David Moyes for his wild celebration after Everton’s late equalizer against Liverpool, adding, “To book him [Farke] is a disgrace.
Did anybody book David Moyes in the Everton game the other night? I didn’t see anybody booking him. Oh my goodness.”
Meanwhile, Sunderland will aim to recover from their late setback when they face Hull City in the Championship on Saturday lunchtime.
The Black Cats won 1-0 when the teams met in October, with Wilson Isidor scoring the decisive goal after a brilliant solo breakaway.
