Tottenham Hotspur will face Manchester City next in the Premier League, with both teams enduring disappointing seasons so far. Spurs are currently 12th in the league, while City sits in fourth, trailing the top by 20 points.

However, Spurs have shown signs of improvement recently. They’ve won three consecutive league games, their first such streak this season, and are looking more confident heading into their match against Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday.

Paul Merson predicts a Tottenham victory, highlighting that Guardiola is experiencing an unusually tough season, having never faced such struggles in his career.

City have only won 13 of their 26 league games this season and have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and Champions League.

The FA Cup remains their only hope for silverware, but it won’t change the fact that their season has been underwhelming.

While Tottenham’s season has largely been disappointing, Merson believes they will beat Manchester City. He wrote on Sportskeeda: “I expect Tottenham to trouble City.

If Erling Haaland isn’t fit and it turns into an open, fast-paced game, I would back Spurs to win. City lacks firepower and looks unlikely to score. Their new signings have also not worked out.

City can still finish in the top four, but with difficult matches against Nottingham Forest and Brighton ahead, a loss to Spurs could leave them playing catch-up.”

Merson added: “Tottenham’s attacking trio has goals in them, and with Son Heung-min playing confidently, Spurs will definitely cause problems for City.”

Merson predicts a 2-1 win for Tottenham.

Manchester City’s last five results at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: Tottenham has consistently been a challenging opponent for Manchester City in recent years. Even when Guardiola’s side was dominating, they struggled against Spurs, both home and away.

Here’s how their last five visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium went:

The teams have each won two games and drawn one in their last five meetings at the venue. Spurs have already defeated City twice this season – a 2-1 win in the Carabao Cup and a stunning 4-0 triumph at the Etihad in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping for a repeat of that 4-0 result on Wednesday night.
