Leeds United are reportedly eyeing a stunning summer move for Tammy Abraham, currently on loan at AC Milan, as part of their efforts to secure Premier League survival.
While the primary focus for Leeds is to earn promotion from the Championship, following a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United, their chances of doing so now look strong.
Daniel Farke’s team is in a prime position to return to the Premier League, sitting five points clear of second-place Sheffield United with just 12 games remaining in the season.
Already, plans are being made for the summer, and Abraham is among the players linked with a move to Elland Road.
Paul Robinson Supports Leeds’ Pursuit of Abraham
Although Joel Piroe has impressed this season, Leeds will likely still look to sign a new striker during the summer transfer window.
Abraham, with his proven Premier League experience, would be a major coup, and former player Paul Robinson believes the move is a real possibility.
“They need a number nine,” Robinson explained.
“If you look at what they’ve got, Patrick Bamford has been inconsistent this year, mostly due to injury, and hasn’t been able to get in the team.
Mateo Joseph is a top striker, and they turned down a significant bid from Real Betis for him in the window. In my opinion, he’s the best of the lot, but he doesn’t score goals.
“Joel Piroe has played as the lead striker and has scored goals this season, but as a traditional number nine, someone like Tammy Abraham would be a great fit.
“Abraham is currently on loan, and with his contract ending this summer, it’s likely he has no future at his parent club.
Signing a player like him would be a statement for Leeds, as he’s a top-quality player in a position where Leeds need strength.”
Leeds Set to Show Ambition in the Summer
To avoid relegation from the Premier League, Leeds will need to make smart, strategic signings, and the acquisition of Abraham would be a step in the right direction.
The former Chelsea forward is a regular in AC Milan’s Champions League squad, having joined Roma for £34 million [BBC Sport] before moving to Milan on loan.
If Leeds can pull off this signing, it would mark a fantastic start to their summer transfer business.
