Nottingham Forest secured a significant boost to their Champions League qualification hopes with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.
While Pep Guardiola remains confident that City can still qualify for next season’s Champions League, he acknowledged that their defeat to Forest at the City Ground leaves them with much work to do. While Ederson made a fantastic save to deny Hudson-Odoi earlier in the match, the City goalkeeper was caught out by the winger’s follow-up shot, which slipped in at the near post.
Guardiola refused to assign blame to Ederson, saying: “It is what it is. We can’t blame any player. I prefer to praise rather than blame. I didn’t see the action, but it’s just part of football.”
Hudson-Odoi’s winner added another memorable moment to what has been a standout season for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. The victory moved Forest into third place, four points ahead of City in fourth and five points clear of Chelsea in fifth, with just 10 games remaining.
