Unacceptable”- David Moyes left furious with what he saw in Everton’s draw at Wolves, he’ll be having a word with one man
Everton were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves on Saturday evening in a performance that left much to be desired.
Jack Harrison scored the opening goal for Everton, marking his first of the season. Manager David Moyes had called for goal contributions from Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom, and both delivered at Molineux.
However, Everton couldn’t maintain their lead for long, and the teams went into halftime level.
Moyes had spent the week with his players in Abu Dhabi’s heat, but it seemed some of the squad were still in vacation mode.
Though the unbeaten run in the Premier League continues, Moyes was left furious by one aspect of his side’s performance.
Moyes Fumes Over Everton’s Set-Pieces
Under Moyes, Everton have exceeded expectations and pulled clear of the relegation zone. However, Saturday’s display was a major disappointment for the traveling fans.
One journalist covering the match reported Moyes’ frustration with the team’s set-pieces:
“Another Everton set piece sails into Sa’s arms.
Moyes frustrated again,” they noted. “The last corner went to the back post, but there was nobody there. With so much height in this side, the delivery and execution need to improve.”
This has become a recurring issue for the 61-year-old manager. Moyes had previously voiced his irritation with Harrison’s corner delivery against Brentford, and it was evident again on Saturday.
Given Everton struggled to gain control of the game, set-pieces offered a key chance for the team to score against the run of play.
Charlie Adam Under Pressure
After being appointed in January, Moyes brought in Charlie Adam as Everton’s set-piece coach, but the move has yet to yield positive results on the pitch.
Fans have voiced their frustration with the team’s set-piece execution, and it appears to be getting worse each week. While the absence of Dwight McNeil, the club’s dead-ball specialist, is a factor, more is expected from players like Harrison.
Adam still has a lot to prove if he hopes to retain his role heading into next season.
