“Vitor Pereira Drops Bombshell on Why He Subbed Marshall Munetsi at Half-Time vs Everton
Vitor Pereira has explained why he substituted midfielder Marshall Munetsi at half-time during Wolves’ 1-1 draw against Everton.
Munetsi, who joined Wolves from Stade Reims on transfer deadline day, was one of three new signings brought into Molineux.
The 28-year-old has quickly become a key player in attack, coming close to scoring several times before finally finding the net on Saturday.
The Zimbabwean midfielder opened his account for Wolves with a well-taken goal, calmly slotting the ball past Jordan Pickford after a brilliant assist from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
However, Munetsi’s night was cut short when Pereira opted to take him off at the break. The Portuguese manager has now explained the decision.
Munetsi “Felt Something” Against Everton
Given Wolves’ recent injury woes, fans feared the worst when Munetsi was substituted for Pablo Sarabia at half-time. Thankfully, Pereira later clarified that the issue didn’t appear to be serious.
The midfielder had simply “felt something” during the first half, and Pereira didn’t want to risk further damage by keeping him on.
“He deserved the goal, but it was a pity he felt something in the first half, and we cannot take risks with him,” Pereira told BBC Sport.
The Wolves manager also praised Munetsi for his attitude, noting that he has the kind of spirit he values in a player, and expressed confidence that the midfielder would build on his first goal for the club.
“He has the spirit that I like in a player,” Pereira continued. “He did everything to help the team, and he will definitely score more goals.”
With Wolves set to face Southampton next weekend, fans will be hoping Munetsi is fully recovered and ready to start at St Mary’s.

A goal-scoring midfielder is a rare commodity in today’s market, but Wolves managed to secure Munetsi for a reasonable £16 million—a fee that already looks like a steal.
Physically imposing, Munetsi excels in winning battles and possesses excellent movement to find space in dangerous areas.
Though he has missed some great chances so far, his composure in front of goal against Everton shows he has the potential to contribute significantly.
While Wolves have relied heavily on Matheus Cunha this season, Munetsi’s growing influence is a welcome sight. He’s a player who could easily reach double figures for goals, adding an important dimension to the team’s attack.
