Joe Rodon and Illan Meslier were at fault for the defensive blunder that led to Colby Bishop’s goal, the only one of the game.
Conor Oglivie’s ball was curled around the Leeds defence, and Rodon appeared to expect Meslier to come out, while the goalkeeper seemed to think Rodon would position himself between Bishop and the goal.
As both players hesitated, Bishop pounced, getting between them and lifting the ball over the post and into the net.

It was a damaging result for Leeds in their bid for promotion.
Leeds had their chances to get back into the game, with Joel Piroe squandering two significant opportunities and Dan James heading wide.
There was also a strong case for a penalty in the first half, as pointed out by Lee Hendrie and Lucy Ward. However, Portsmouth deserved their victory.
Stuart Dallas on the Portsmouth Goal
Stuart Dallas analyzed the situation in the aftermath, explaining that the mix-up between Rodon and Meslier played a key role in Bishop’s decision to shoot.
“Rodon seems to expect Meslier to come out, but Meslier hesitates, and that hesitation is what made Bishop decide to take the shot,” Dallas said in his ITV Sport analysis.
Aidy White Criticizes Rodon
Former Leeds player Aidy White placed the blame for the goal squarely on Rodon, suggesting he was too slow to react as Bishop surged forward.
White noted on BBC Radio Leeds: “Bishop runs off the back of Rodon, and Rodon lets him go.
Then he’s hoping Meslier will come to the rescue, but he’s nowhere near. Leeds only won three tackles to Portsmouth’s 12.”
While White holds Rodon responsible for allowing Bishop the chance to score, he also pointed out a broader issue: Leeds were physically outmuscled by Portsmouth. The home side’s tactical strength and physicality were key factors in Leeds’ lackluster performance.
