Alan Brazil takes a jab at Ally McCoist over managerial suggestion
Ferguson has managed only three games as Rangers’ interim boss but has shown signs of progress. A 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League was a significant step forward, especially considering the team’s resilience despite being outplayed at times.
While Ferguson may feel he’s making a case to stay beyond this season, his limited experience doesn’t meet the high expectations at Ibrox. This leaves Rangers supporters wondering who might be the ideal candidate to take the club forward.
When asked who he would prefer as the next manager during a talkSPORT segment on March 12 (7:47 am), Ally McCoist responded, “It’s too late now, and you’ll think I’m just jumping on the bandwagon because they lost last night, but Frank Lampard—I think Frank.”
Alan Brazil quickly dismissed McCoist’s suggestion, retorting, “What are you talking about? He’s not going to leave Coventry for Rangers.”
McCoist defended his choice, saying, “No, I would have said that before Coventry. I’m not getting involved in that silly nonsense. Let’s move on.”
Rangers’ potential takeover could transform the club
While Brazil took the chance to mock McCoist and Rangers, his assessment isn’t far off, given the current challenges facing the club both on and off the field. This is likely why Ferguson was brought in as an interim solution, as finding a permanent manager up to Ibrox’s standards may take more time.
However, if the 49ers succeed in completing their takeover, the opportunity at Rangers would become much more enticing, offering the financial backing and ambition needed for progress.
As McCoist acknowledged, pursuing Lampard may not be realistic given his recent move to Coventry, where he’s performing well. Still, Rangers fans have every reason to aim high, as brighter days could be on the horizon at Ibrox.
