“Mean no disrespect to Ipswich Town, I believe it’s time for him to move on to a bigger club,” said former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood, who believes the standout Ipswich player could end up at “most of the top teams” this summer.
Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood believes Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is destined for a move to “most of the top teams” this summer.
Delap, 22, has been a standout performer for the Blues in what has been a challenging top-tier campaign, scoring 10 goals in 31 appearances.
The striker, who was signed from Manchester City for £15m last summer, reportedly has a £40m buyback clause in his contract.
Having played under current Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca in City’s youth system, Sherwood thinks Delap could make the move to Stamford Bridge in the near future.
“I can definitely see Liam Delap in a Chelsea shirt next season,” Sherwood, who has managed both Tottenham and Aston Villa, told Norsk Poker.
“He’s a proper player, a throwback centre-forward who dominates defenders and has great physicality. He knows how to find the back of the net, as we’ve seen this season.
“He also has pace—he’s the complete package. While he’s still developing, anyone who takes him on this summer would have a valuable project on their hands.
“It’s unfortunate he had to leave Manchester City, but we’ve seen similar situations where players have thrived after moving on.
“I can see him joining most of the top teams. I rate him highly, and I could see him at Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, or Arsenal.
“I wouldn’t hesitate to sign him. At around £40 million, he’d be worth every penny—double what Ipswich paid for him.
“Kieran McKenna has done a great job managing him, and now it’s time for him to take the next step at a bigger club.
“Even if Ipswich stay up, which seems unlikely, I’m confident Liam Delap will still be playing in the Premier League next season.”
