Sunderland currently has several players away on international duty, and on Tuesday night, one of them delivered a standout performance.
The number of players representing their countries this month is a testament to Sunderland’s strength and the club’s ability to spot young talent, thanks to Kristjaan Speakman.

But there was a positive note in the form of on-loan defender Chris Mepham, who started for Wales in their 1-1 draw with Macedonia on Tuesday, putting in a commanding performance for Craig Bellamy’s side.

Mepham, who joined Sunderland on loan from Bournemouth last summer, has been a revelation since his arrival.
Signed on deadline day after an injury to Dan Ballard, he has been a key figure for Sunderland, making 30 Championship appearances, scoring once, and earning a return to the Welsh national team.
On Tuesday, Wales played out a 1-1 draw with Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier, with Mepham’s Bournemouth teammate, David Brooks, rescuing a late point.
However, it was Mepham who stood out, with WalesOnline rating only two players 8/10: Mepham and Jordan James.
WalesOnline praised Mepham’s performance, stating: “Really good on his return to the side.
No player won more aerial duels.” Meanwhile, clwbpeldroed.org highlighted Mepham’s strong defensive display, saying: “He made key interceptions and tackles to break up potential counter-attacks,” and awarded him a 7/10 rating.

Keeping Mepham fit and in form will be crucial for Sunderland as they head into the final stretch of the season, particularly with Hume’s injury possibly requiring a defensive reshuffle.
