“Only after today’s match”- Swansea City Boss Alan Sheehan Drops Bombshell Leeds United Wish and Unbelievable Admission About His Time at Elland Road
Alan Sheehan, currently serving as Swansea City’s caretaker head coach, originally joined Leeds United as a player back in January 2008.
Ahead of this afternoon’s Championship clash between Leeds and Swansea, Sheehan has expressed his admiration for his former club, throwing in a lighthearted “half an hour” remark about his time at Elland Road.
Seventeen years after his arrival at Leeds from Leicester, Sheehan will now take his place in the away dugout, tasked with leading Swansea in what he considers the most challenging match in the division.
Sheehan, who took over as Swansea’s interim head coach in February after Luke Williams’ departure, will remain in charge for the remainder of the season.
The 38-year-old views the final eight games as a long audition for the permanent role, and sees today’s match as a tough test against one of the league’s strongest teams.
In his pre-match press conference, Sheehan praised Daniel Farke’s league-leading Leeds side and reflected fondly on his time at the club, despite spending most of his final year on loan.
He wished Leeds “all the success” in the future, but only after Saturday’s game.
Recalling his brief stint at Leeds, Sheehan joked: “I was there for half an hour. I had a good time on loan under Gary McAllister—we lost in the play-off final.
I think that was the same year Swansea got promoted from League One under Roberto Martínez.
I joined in January, had a good time, then signed permanently. But after a change of management, I ended up going out on loan.
Leeds is a massive club with passionate fans, and I wish them all the success… just not until after Saturday.”
Regarding the challenge of facing Leeds at Elland Road, especially after their recent form, Sheehan said: “You have to play them at some point. They’re a top team in this league, no way around it.
Elland Road is probably the toughest place to visit this season, regardless of their form. It’s going to be a huge challenge, and you know exactly what you’re up against when you go there.”
When asked about Leeds’ former Swansea players, Dan James and Joel Piroe, Sheehan praised their quality: “They have high-level players across the pitch. That’s why they’re where they are.
They’ve got plenty of attacking options, both in the starting XI and on the bench, so we know the task at hand and need to be ready for it.”
