‘We Can’t Control It”- Kieran McKenna’s SHOCKING Reaction amid Ipswich RELEGATION saga following Crucial Win against Bournemouth
Kieran McKenna wasn’t getting carried away with thoughts of a miracle escape from relegation, despite Ipswich’s 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, their first Premier League win of 2025.
Goals from Nathan Broadhead and top scorer Liam Delap helped Ipswich inflict further damage on Bournemouth’s European hopes, with McKenna’s side still nine points behind 17th-placed Wolves, whom they face on Saturday.
McKenna remained grounded, saying: “We never lost belief at any point. We know the odds have been heavily stacked against us all season.
“Wolves are the only team near us at the bottom, and they’ve had some good results recently. We know there’s still a chance, but honestly, our focus isn’t on that too much right now.
“We’ve been focused on a block of nine games and doing everything we can to play well and win as many of those as possible. Beyond that, we can’t control anything.
“If we beat Wolves on Saturday and they win all their remaining games, they’ll finish above us, so we can only control what we can control. Tonight’s win is a good start.
“Every win this season is special for us, and tonight’s one is no different. I’m particularly proud of the performance—individually and as a team. How we went about it was fantastic.
“When you’ve been waiting for a win like we have, it reveals the character of both the individuals and the group. Tonight’s performance really showed how together everyone is, and we got our reward.”
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott had a shot cleared off the line just before Broadhead put Ipswich ahead with a low strike through Kepa Arrizabalaga’s legs in the 34th minute.
Delap sealed the win in the 60th minute with a clinical finish into the far corner following a move that began with goalkeeper Alex Palmer.
Bournemouth’s hopes were briefly reignited when Evanilson scored a close-range effort 23 minutes from time, but the hosts never found their rhythm.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, whose side have now gone five league games without a win, acknowledged the team’s struggles: “We have to keep believing in ourselves.
“We’re going through a tough patch, and everything feels difficult. We’re not scoring as easily as we did earlier in the season. They had two shots on target and scored two goals.
“At least physically, I think we finished the game much better, but we must keep pushing.”
