Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler believes his team did enough to secure a win despite suffering a 3-0 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
On Wednesday, April 3, Brighton was defeated 3-0 at home by Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium.
Goals from Marcus Rashford (51st minute), Marco Asensio (78th minute), and Malen (100th minute) sealed the victory for Villa.
While Brighton showed some promising moments, including a goal disallowed shortly after Villa’s opener, it was clear that the lingering impact of their FA Cup Quarter-Final defeat to Nottingham Forest affected the team.
The first half held hope for the home supporters, but a lack of consistency and sharpness made the difference after the break.
In his post-match press conference, Hurzeler reflected on his team’s performance. When asked about the first half, he said, “We created enough chances to win this game, so there were positive moments.
We defended well and were organized until we conceded, so there were some positives.”
He added, “If we had scored the first goal, we might be sitting here with a different mood.
Small margins make all the difference, and we need to focus on getting the little things right.”
The win for Villa pushed them up to seventh in the league as they aim for a Champions League spot next season.
For Brighton, the loss is a significant blow to their European aspirations, and the team will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next Premier League clash with rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday, April 5.
Palace, currently 12th in the league, will have momentum following their dominant FA Cup victory over Fulham.
Brighton will be eager to avoid a repeat of their December 3-1 loss to Palace at the Amex and will be keen to prevent their rivals from completing their first league double over Brighton since the 1932-33 season.
