“”Is McKenna Staying or Leaving? His Jaw-Dropping Ipswich Decision Revealed

Kieran McKenna Commits to Ipswich Town Despite Likely Premier League Relegation

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has confirmed he will remain at the club next season, even if the Tractor Boys drop back into the Championship following a tough Premier League campaign.

After masterminding back-to-back promotions from League One to the top flight, McKenna attracted attention from several clubs last summer.

However, he opted to stay at Portman Road, penning a new four-year deal in May that keeps him with the club until 2028.

Despite a significant summer outlay of £109 million — which saw the arrivals of Jacob Greaves, Jaden Philogene, Jack Clarke, Sammie Szmodics, and Liam Delap — Ipswich have struggled to adjust to the demands of Premier League football, spending most of the season in the bottom three.

A morale-boosting 2-1 win over Bournemouth recently snapped a 10-game winless run, sparking faint hopes of survival.

But those hopes were dented by a damaging 2-1 home loss to 17th-placed Wolves, leaving McKenna’s side 18th in the table, 12 points adrift of safety with just seven games to go — including tough fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle.

Ahead of this summer, there had been renewed speculation about McKenna’s future, with previous interest reported from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Brighton. But the 38-year-old has put any doubts to rest.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, McKenna stated: “The short answer is yes,” when asked if he would stay on. “I’m happy here.

It felt right to stay last summer, and I wanted to take on the challenge of this Premier League season.”

He added, “This club has a fantastically bright future. Even if we take a step back, there’s real potential for long-term progress.”
