Tim Sherwood believes one of Leeds United’s standout players in their 6-0 demolition of Stoke City is simply too good to be playing for the club.
Leeds turned in a dominant, composed display on Easter Monday, easing the pressure of the promotion race with a ruthless performance against a struggling Stoke side.
Joel Piroe set the tone early, scoring just six minutes in and completing a hat-trick by the 20th minute—the fastest in Leeds United’s history.
Junior Firpo and Piroe again added to the scoreline before halftime, with Willy Gnonto rounding off the rout in the second half as Leeds coasted to a 6-0 win and moved closer to a Premier League return.
While Piroe grabbed the headlines with four goals, Manor Solomon was once again a creative force, assisting twice and continuing his excellent recent form.
However, Tim Sherwood, speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special, insisted Solomon is playing below his level.
“Manor Solomon shouldn’t even be on loan at Leeds,” said the former Tottenham boss, after the winger set up Piroe’s opener with a pinpoint cross. “He can’t miss from there. What a delivery.”
Following Piroe’s hat-trick, Sherwood joked, “Whatever he had for breakfast, I want some. Game over. Not even Leeds can mess this up.”
Leeds pulled off a coup by securing Solomon on loan for the season, and after a slow start, he’s now proving vital in their promotion push.
Whether they can convince him to stay permanently in the summer remains to be seen.
Solomon has arguably been Leeds’ most decisive player in recent weeks, delivering big performances just when the team needed them most.
After a dip in form saw Leeds win just once in six games and drop to third in the table, Solomon stepped up with critical contributions in the last four matches—all victories.
He’s now racked up two goals and four assists in his last four appearances, including a Player of the Match showing against Preston.
His impact could prove the difference in securing automatic promotion.
