Leeds United Secure Premier League Promotion and Major Financial Boost
Leeds United officially sealed their return to the Premier League on Monday after Sheffield United’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley confirmed the Whites’ automatic promotion.
Daniel Farke’s side earned their place back in the top flight after a commanding 6-0 win over Stoke City on Easter Monday, with Joel Piroe netting four goals.
That result took Leeds up to 94 points with just two games remaining, placing them eight points clear of Sheffield United, who still had three games left at the time.
Later that day, the Blades’ loss to Burnley ensured Leeds would finish in the Championship’s top two, securing their Premier League status for next season.
Promotion also comes with significant financial rewards. According to Leeds Live, the club is set to benefit from a massive financial injection ahead of their return to the top division.
Since being relegated from the Premier League in the 2022/23 season, Leeds have been receiving parachute payments.
However, with promotion now secured, the club is in line for a considerable increase in revenue, especially from broadcasting rights.
Dr. Dan Plumley, a sports finance expert from Sheffield Hallam University, explained the numbers earlier this year:
“Typically, promotion is worth around £120 million for clubs not receiving parachute payments.
In Leeds’ case, it’ll be slightly less, around £70–80 million, but still a substantial boost,” he told Leeds Live.
“Leeds have maintained strong attendance figures and solid commercial partnerships in the Championship, so the real uplift will come from TV revenue.”
Despite Daniel Farke’s usual modest post-match celebrations, the German manager hinted before the Burnley game that he might break tradition if promotion was clinched.
“I usually just celebrate with cake and coffee on the sofa—I’m at that age where I’m pretty tired after a game,” he said with a smile.
