“Jobe Bellingham Sends Powerful Message to Sunderland Fans After EFL Award Triumph

Sunderland received significant recognition at the EFL Awards night, with standout performances earning players and staff accolades.

Jobe Bellingham was named Championship Young Player of the Season, beating out Sheffield Wednesday’s Shea Charles and Burnley’s CJ Egan-Riley for the prestigious honor.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a fantastic second season at Sunderland, and he expressed his determination to help the club secure play-off success and return to the Premier League.

“I’m grateful to win the award,” Bellingham said. “It’s been a really good season, and I’ve just tried to learn from my teammates and do the best I can.”

“I’ve learned a lot from the gaffer, who has brought great structure to our team.

I’ve improved a lot out of possession, physically as well, which has helped my development. I feel like I’ve progressed a lot this season.”

“It’s amazing to play for a club as big as Sunderland, and it’s a huge opportunity to play in front of such a passionate fan base every week.

Hopefully, we can end the season on a high. Playing in the Premier League, especially with Sunderland, is a huge motivation. In my eyes, they absolutely deserve to be there.”

Sunderland also claimed two awards on the night, with Chris Rigg winning Championship Apprentice of the Season.

He triumphed over Cardiff City’s Ronan Kpakio and Stoke City’s Souleymane Sidibe.

“I’m buzzing to win the award,” Rigg said. “It’s always nice to pick up individual awards and be recognised. Hopefully, we’ll be picking up another one at the end of the season.

We’re looking forward to the rest of the campaign, and we’re hoping to grab three points against QPR and go into the play-offs on a high.”

Régis Le Bris was nominated for Championship Manager of the Season alongside Daniel Farke, Scott Parker, and Chris Wilder, but the award ultimately went to Parker.

Championship Team of the Season Features Sunderland Player

Bellingham was also named in the Championship Team of the Season, the only Sunderland player to make the prestigious XI.

Burnley had three players represented, all from their dominant defensive unit.

Leeds United also had three players included, while Sheffield United and Norwich City had two players each.

In addition to Sunderland’s success, former academy graduates received recognition at the event.

Former left-back Denver Hume was named in the League Two Team of the Season after impressing for play-off-chasing Grimsby Town.

Winger Luke Molyneux, who played a key role in Doncaster Rovers’ promotion back to League One, was also named in the team.
