Leeds United and Burnley Set for Record-Breaking Title Clash on Final Day

The Championship title race is heading for a thrilling finale as Leeds United and Burnley prepare for what could be a historic final day.

Both clubs sit on 97 points following Leeds’ convincing win over Bristol City, setting the stage for one of the most tightly contested finishes in recent memory.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds and Scott Parker’s Burnley have been in sensational form, and both managers deserve credit for guiding their teams to promotion. Now, with top-flight football already secured, the focus shifts to who will lift the Championship trophy.

On paper, Leeds may have the more favorable fixture. They face a Plymouth side that would need a staggering goal swing to avoid relegation, while Burnley take on a Millwall team still in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Opta Supercomputer Gives Leeds the Edge

According to a new simulation from the Opta supercomputer, Leeds are the clear favorites to claim the title. The model gives them a 70.32% chance of finishing first, compared to Burnley’s 29.68%.

While there’s no longer pressure in terms of promotion, there’s plenty at stake when it comes to pride—and Leeds defender Ethan Ampadu has already sent a warning shot to Burnley.

Regardless of the outcome, both teams have outperformed expectations. Sheffield United, once considered a contender, have fallen away, leaving Leeds and Burnley in a league of their own. Both clubs are now Premier League-bound and this title race only adds to their momentum.

A Far Cry From March Predictions

The latest predictions mark a major shift from what Opta projected just two months ago.

Back in March, the algorithm expected Leeds and Sheffield United to earn promotion, with Burnley predicted to finish third with an average of 92.6 points.

Clearly, Burnley have exceeded expectations, and that’s a testament to Parker’s impact. Still, the odds now favor Farke’s side as the final matchday approaches.

While Leeds may be seen as favorites, nothing is guaranteed in the Championship—especially in a season full of twists and turns. All eyes will be on Saturday, as this nail-biting title chase comes to a close.
